"Gravel Walks" refers to the gravel paths leading up to a remote Donegal glen called Granny, where farmers from the villages of Ardara and Kilcar would drive their sheep to summer pasture, then climb back up those stony tracks each autumn to bring them home. It's a firmly Donegal tune, kept alive largely by the Byrne brothers of Kilcar and the travelling Doherty family, and it's got deeper roots than most people realize. It belongs to a whole clan of tunes descending from the Scottish reel "Highland Man that Kissed His Grannie."
